Data Is Data Even If We Don’t Like It

Just like most people in the US, I was up last night watching the Presidential Election unfold.

I actually witnessed something quite profound.

Early on they had the CEO of a polling company report in with the numbers.

He said something along the lines of,

“Well, we’re seeing some counties in GA who voted for Biden are now voting Trump but other counties who voted Trump are now voting Kamala, so it’s up in the air.”

Once he left, one of the hosts said,

“Well, that wasn’t optimistic enough, can we NOT go back to that guy?”

That was my takeaway.

How many of us CHOOSE to turn a blind eye to data we don’t want to see.

After years of entrepreneurship and trading, I found that actual pure data that’s not manipulated to fit one way or another is a Beautiful thing.

I’m talking primarily about trading (of course)...

…But this happens around us all the time.

How many times do people not want to look at a credit card bill because they hate seeing how much is owed?

How many times do people ignore a weird sound from their car because they hate unexpected costs?

This habit of ignoring things we don’t like or don’t want to notice is NOT effective to actually accomplish our goals.

This is Extremely true with Trading.

In trading (especially when new), it’s very important to focus on the trades that don’t work out well.

Focus on what happened and what you might do differently next time.

Don’t ignore it and say it was a fluke in the market.

There’s always an explanation as long as you’re willing to look at it.
