Dependent, Or Independent?

Last week in the US they celebrated their Independence Day, and it got me thinking about that word – Independence.

What does that mean for normal people like you and me?

Maybe it would be easier to think: what does “Dependence” mean?

Dependence means doing your best in a job and crossing your fingers you’re still considered “essential” by your employer.

Dependence means if something happens that puts off your paycheck by a week, you now are getting phone calls about your bills being late.

Dependence means you have to ask permission to spend extra time with your family during the week or take off for a family vacation.

Worse, dependence means you must sacrifice money if you become ill and can’t go to work that day.

It’s fascinating how many people feel comfortable and complacent with their jobs…

…Until they are blindsided by their employer and let go for budget cuts.

Some of you know how truly insecure jobs are in today’s economy.

This is why so many people are starting a business or starting to learn how to become a professional trader.

Business and Trading go hand-in-hand.

To start a business, you need a business plan.

To trade consistently, you need a trading plan.

To start a business, you have to track all the traffic and numbers to stay on top of any downturns.

To trade consistently, you have to track all your numbers to notice any bad behaviors you may have developed in the markets.

Successful business owners have a mentor to help show them the way.

So many similarities, but there are also some massive differences.

Business has overhead – building leases, employees, inventory, etc.

Trading is just you.

Business will consume all your time (for many it’s more hours than a job)

Trading takes 1-2 hours per day.

Between owning a business and becoming a trader, which one gives you more independence?

Obviously trading, but it’s not that simple.

How do you keep track of your numbers and behaviors?
