Some people spend 40 years in a job they hate and call it “stability”. Others call it a life sentence.

Sadly, most of us don’t stay financially trapped our whole lives because we have to.

We stay stuck because freedom feels unfamiliar – and our cage feels safe.

So even when the door’s wide open…we choose not to walk out.

In 1830, George Wilson robbed a mail carrier and was sentenced to death.

Not exactly a master plan – high risk, low reward, and the kind of federal offense that came with a noose.

But before the sentence was carried out, something unexpected happened: the President of the United States gave him a full pardon.

All Wilson had to do was accept it.

Sign the paper.

Walk out the door.

And live.

But he didn’t.

He chose the rope instead.

The case eventually made its way to the Supreme Court,

because no one knew what to do with a man who refused not to die.

The ruling?

“A pardon is only valid if the person accepts it.”

So on July 2, 1834, George Wilson was hanged.

Not because he had to be.

But because he wouldn’t accept freedom – even when it was offered to him.

We might shake our heads and think that guy was crazy.

And…maybe he was.

But what’s really crazy is people are still doing this every single day.

They stay in jobs they hate.

Routines that numb them.

Systems that eat them alive.

Why?

It's as big a mystery as why George Wilson chose death over life.

Maybe it’s because misery is familiar –

We’re so used to it we know how to function inside it.

But freedom? Freedom means facing the unknown…

and not knowing who we’ll become once we let go of the only kind of life we’ve ever known.

What most people don’t realize though is freedom has its own structure.
